If your panel is an 8-bit panel it will only support Limited RGB. If it is a 10-bit or 14-bit panel it will support Full Range RGB. In reality any display will support this, however 8-bit panels will normally produce noticeable banding if you try and feed it a full range signal.
Either way this should not matter. The differences between limited and full basically change how you calibrate your display. A HDTV set to full range properly calibrated will look exactly the same as a HDTV set to limited properly calibrated. Most people who use their HDTV as a PC monitor will calibrate around a Full Range RGB signal since this is the standard output for PCs and people who use their HDTV for games and movies will use Limited Range and calibrate around that.

yeah I know theres not mod but since the psp is so small and so full of possibilities I thought there would be some hacks for the ps3 as well because of the whole harddrive built into and stuff *_*

I am not doing a hardware mod on a 300 quid console I just bought. Or rather... am just about to buy.

PS3's upscaling is laughable, and results in an image that looks as if it was smeared with vaseline (no smoothing). Allowing my TV to upscale results in a better image, but the PS3's awful deinterlacing creates an image that is still unnaturally soft.
If the PS3 could output the original 480i signal, all would be well. ![]() |

The PS3 uses Nvidias per-pixel adaptive deinterlacing and scaling found in the latest PureVideo. I doubt there is a TV out there with better scaling and deinterlacing hardware, but maybe they are using some shader settings that don't look good to you and unfortunately there is only an on/off setting for it. Maybe one day they'll allow for more user control of the scaler like sharpness level during the inverse transformation.

I dont see anything wrong with the PS3's upscaling. I'm playing FFVIII on my PS3 right now and it looks great compared to it running on a ps1 or a ps2 on a HDTV.

That's a coupon they gave out for some Playstation Underground membership or something, I don't know. It doesn't scan properly, but it works when the cashier keys in the SKU number. |

I know that PS2/1 emulation on the 80GB model is laughable, but does Sony have any intention on improving it (firmware upgrades that allow more games to be played)? I'd buy a 60GB model, but I just don't trust buying it used. Finding it new won't be easy.

For example Ar Tonelico and Growlanser Generations never worked before the latest update, but now they're fine.
Also for thoes trying to argue whether Megalith is right or not it's useless. Megalith is pretty much a videophile / audio quality freak. Not that there's anything wrong with that but the more one knows the more things they notice. Myself personally, I think that 75% of PS2 games look like crap anyway so I don't really care. And all that I do play on it are 2D fighting games, so I wouldn't be able to tell you whether it's better or worse. But I'm sure the PS3 upscaling is fine for most who can't tell the difference. (I also have the 60Gb system, so there may be a difference compared to the 80Gb version, I don't know) |

I just noticed it now, when did we get this new visual thing when we play musics? Before, we had only two, the huge swirl which was like the ps3's XMB Background, and then the wave thing that changes colors, now we have one that shows us the moon, and the earth? It depends perhaps on the current time I guess since its night time here
![]() -edit- Ah, Earth Visualization... came with 2.10.... meow~ ![]()

The Earth Visualization is pretty awesome, now we only need a visual theme like the one in folding@home a.k.a. the best PS3 game there will ever be.
Well yeah okay we don't really need stuff like that, but it would be cool anyway. |
