[DS] Kirby Super Star 2?

So yeah, at that Nintendo Fall Conference thing some pictures magic'd themselves into being.

Looks pretty much like Kirby Super Star. Looks almost like they're going for a Nightmare in Dreamland remake approach and while that isn't terrible when you just look at it that way it could be worse than you think.

Do you suppose they'll ever release Mario All Stars on the Virtual Console? Oh hell naw they won't that's lost revenue from Mario 1, 2, 3, and Lost World sales. Not gonna happen. So, they're coming out with what is pretty much a remake of Kirby Super Star. 7 bucks for the original on Virtual Console or a 30 dollar remake on DS. DS needs to print more money and so the original for Virtual Console bites the dust. That's only a possibility and one if it is a remake and if Nintendo decides to be a giant dick.

So let's pretend it's a sequel ala Yoshi's Island 2 and hopefully for the love of God not developed by Artoon. In that case WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY WASTING TIME ON ANOTHER KIRBY HANDHELD (although the blueprints it holds are quite amazing and hey more Kirby should be good) WHEN WE HAVEN'T HAD A CONSOLE KIRBY PLATFORMER SINCE KIRBY 64?!!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THAT GAMECUBE KIRBY GAME!?!?!<!>

So right, discuss this new game here and angst on why there hasn't been a console Kirby platformer IN YEARS.

Because, and I could be mistaken, but aside from KIRBY'S AWESOME AIR RIDE (which sane people would only play that map that would let you go all over the fucking place) is about the closest thing you will get to the last great Kirby game (hur hur) ever.

Reason why you ask?

Kirby is probably, to my knowledge, the only mascot that has NEVER had a 3D game. Mario, Sonic, DK, Castlevania, and numerous other ongoing series have all made the transition to 3D, except for Kirby.

I'd be all for it if it was fun like Super Mario 64. (Yeah, fuck you WATER PACK fucking totally worthless without you in Sunshine)

I'm always up for more multi player Kirby games. Especially if they're online. Only reason I didn't like Amazing Mirror very much was because nobody else I know had it, and it was sad playing by myself. I still think there hasn't been a really good multi player co-op game since Super Star.

Also I think Kirby works pretty well on the DS.

Grail, the Cube game was a 3d sidescroller akin to Kirby 64 but had player controlled buddies for up to 4 players co-op. It practically sold itself on that alone to folks who missed awesome co-op from Super Star.

Air Ride's 3D platforming was fine for what it was and I wouldn't say no to a 3D Kirby but the series does work best as a sidescroller. I'll be glad if HAL can prove me wrong one day.

I'm not denying that it'll be a good game, Xardion. I'm talking about the ramifications for the original Super Star and the fact that we haven't heard about the Kirby console platformer in years and that angers me. It looked so good.

If this is a remake they couldn't possibly mess it up, but I don't know if I want a sequel considering Nintendo's underwhelming track record for DS platformers (NSMB, Yoshi's Island 2, Wario something, Super Princess Peach). Not much to go on now though.
Kirby is probably, to my knowledge, the only mascot that has NEVER had a 3D game. Mario, Sonic, DK, Castlevania, and numerous other ongoing series have all made the transition to 3D, except for Kirby.
Kirby Air Ride is terrible since it caused Sakurai to leave HAL.

There was a Gamecube Kirby title being developed but it was canceled, perhaps because the creator left? Seeing as how Nintendo never throws away their unfinished code and how an untitled Kirby game for the Wii has been announced I wouldn't be surprised if you'd get to see some awesome enemy stackan soon.

Kirby Air Ride didn't cause him to leave. He wanted to make new stuff and a sequel to Super Smash Bros. Melee and Nintendo/HAL wouldn't let him, so he simply left so he could do what he wanted. Kirby was in fairly capable hands at HAL and there was no news of a new Smash Bros so everything probably seemed in good order to him.

The Cube Kirby platformer was being worked on after he left and I don't think he had all that much involvement with it. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure he didn't want to work on Kirby sequels that much anymore and left it to other folks at that point besides Air Ride which was something new for him as you can see all his wonderful touches all over it.

His last real Kirby platformer more than likely was Super Star or Dreamland 3 (I can't remember which came out last - I'm thinking Dreamland 3).

Also, Air Ride was awesome if you delved deep enough into it. Quite a refined game that amazingly only used one button. Way ahead of his time. The game would be PERFECT for Wii (plus some online play would be freaking sweet).

Cool. But I'd rather have something fresh, like Canvas Curse 2.

I'd like to hope that it'd have some new content. I'd only just got around to enjoying Kirby Super Stars via roms and loved it. Kirby squeak squad was pretty fun if a bit too easy and straight foreward. I remember my days playing Dreamland 2 on my gameboy all the damn time trying to get all the rainbow drops to finally get to the final showdown and with the rainbow sword. While it was never impossibly hard it was relatively challenging. I'd like to see kirby get that nice balance again.

This would be fun if it could make use of wifi for the partners.

It generally looks like a port of the original game, but that's not bothering me one bit. If 2-player download play co-op is available for this, I am officially set on buying this. On top of that, Kirby Super Star is one of those games I always wanted to own, but was never graced with that opportunity.

They also need to re-incarnate the helpers in this game into other games... They were awesome in here.

I was telling Merv last night that even though I've beaten the original KSS roughly 9.001 x 103 times, I'd still buy a remake because (oh god) I'm such a whore.

Someone was telling me last night elsewhere that it's a sequel, but Jeux France has some pictures that confirms yeah pretty much remake:

Mainly I'm just excited to get Plasma back because it's my favorite power ever (f U.F.O.). <3

I'd actually like a new version of the Kirby golf from the SNES. I played that thing to death and would love to have either an online play or just a bunch more courses.
Will they!?

Nooo~
I'll be fine with purchasing KSS for replay on VC whenever they decide to rerelease it, but I don't think I need the same thing but on the go as well. However, I might be fooled easily if they (re)added one or two new powers like UFO (!) and Ball as an incentive.

A really neat but highly implausible idea would be wifi coop for the Great Cave Offensive. Maybe they could utilize a system where you search for players who have saved at the same spot as you, but the games will keep track of who has what treasure in their inventory. However if there is any wifi at all, I bet it would merely be delegated to Gourmet Race, Samurai Kirby, and Megaton Punch :/

The Wii needs a Kirby's Dreamland sequel, the Wiimote is perfect for pointing kirby towards his next gooey enemy to collide with.

...but this game looks fine too. I might pick it up at budget price a long time from now.

Oh ditto, I mean it's KSS - it'd be a sin if you didn't. Doesn't mean I'm happy about lack of news of the console Kirby platformer or the possibility of the original for VC being canned because it might reduce sales of this remake.

Mainly I'm just excited to get Plasma back because it's my favorite power ever (f U.F.O.). <3
U.F.O. sucks because it's easy to lose and you don't keep it after the level. There were a ton of awesome original abilities in KSS that were just continually amazing as you learned more on how to use them.

lol'n so hard ='D

I'd love a new Kirby as original as Canvas Curse as well though.

Seriously, with Samurai Kirby, they HAVE to implement the touch screen with that. Drawing a slash across the screen in a speed competition, that would be fun.

It's too bad there's a huge freaking map on the touch screen but they might have an interactive layer that allows for that blindly like Star Fox DS and Metroid Prime Hunters.

I wish this would come out on the Wii instead of the Ds. Kirby's Air Ride for Cube was good though.

I came in here with the intent of making this exact post. Multiple players on that game would be fantastic, and the flavor of course designs we'd see are perfectly suited to the DS minigame challenge environment (a custom course mode would be simple enough to introduce as well). A fully 3D version for Wii might work though I'd prefer a isometric viewpoint if they were to go that route, or something akin to the Crystal Shards hybrid approach.

*sigh*
