I'm fairly certain the first (or one of the first) visual appearances of optical camouflage was in Predator, actually.

Might I suggest that anyone who is intrested in MGS4, check out "The 1up show" this week, they talk in depth about their chance to play the demo for about a hour and a half. I found it to be pretty intresting and I also like their takes on most everything they review and talk about...

Spoiler:
That's a good question. Why is it that the military/gov't haven't anything to clean up the facility?
Spoiler:
Well given Ocelot leaked the specs soon after on the black market maybe they thought it wasn't worth it and just set up security and shut the base down. I think I recall a bit of information in MGS2's extra features with those newspaper clips and Nastasha's book which mentioned a journalist going out to Shadow Moses but being captured by an unknown group where he was then rescued by Snake and Meryl...?

Quote:
Bleh, that sucks. It doesn't even sounds like they intend to release it. Why must they deny us the chance to play it!?! Hmm, maybe they're planning to package it an upcoming game of theirs...
Well Kojima Productions doesn't have a title coming out between now and MGS4's release and with no Official Playstation Magazine anymore they can't really bundle it with anything. I honestly expect the expect the demo to be released before the year's end if anything because of the overwhelming positive reaction at the show. I mean even with 48 stations set up and only allowed 15 minutes of play time there was still a 4 hour wait line to play the demo.

It'll probably be worth keeping an ear out for Payton's podcasts and see if he'll reveal anything next week or in the weeks to come.

Saw the show and I'd recommend too. Some interesting details they talk about that some sites haven't covered and their impressions of the Dual Shock 3 was interesting too. At least with the demo coverage we now some details that sort out the story and the clarification that the demo is approximately 15 minutes into the actual game.

Ruliweb has the better video available though since the demo is being played by someone who is, well, actually good. Stream is available in a post or 2 above but the downloadable HD versions are much better and worth keeping:

Spoiler:

Interesting note from the first Codec conversation with Otacon involving Metal Gear MkII that I'll spoiler code just incase...
Spoiler:
Apparently the MKII was developed and constructed by both Otacon and Sunny which means they must of already rescued her prior to MGS4.

The trailer kind of made it seem that Naomi and Sunny were both captured together and being held by Liquid but I guess not now.
It's Agrias time.

Something about those images...

Spoiler:
Old Snake? I don't know if I'm reading into this a little too much, but are we going to wind up playing as a different Snake at some point? Or someone else entirely? The prospect of playing as Johnny amuses me to no end.

Oh and the weapons are crazy, damn.

The text is part of the image and the two squires aren't exactly even.

Spoiler:
I don't think so as Kojima stated that Snake would be the main and you play as. Of course it might not rule out being able to control Cyborg Raiden or any other character but right now it's just Snake that we know is the only playable character.

The name just refers to what the developers and fans are supposed to know Snake as now as well as the rest of the cast in comparison of what they were when most first met them in MGS1 to who they are now at the end of it all. Examples being Solid Snake - Old Snake, Col. Campbell - Roy Campbell, Revolver Ocelot - Liquid Ocelot etc. that the E3 2K6 trailer emphasised.

I love the variety of weapons in the game now and weapon customisations makes it all the more sweeter.

Spoiler:
They call him "Old" snake because his aging was accelerated due to the fact that Big Boss was already old when his clones were created.

He wasn't confused about the story element, but the literal element. Why would they bother to put Old Snake on the health bar instead of just snake like usual? It seems redundant if it didn't have a point to it.

What's everyone's opinion on Metal Gear Online?

I played MGS3 Online, and it was alright, but is it the new one gonna be a rehash? Anyone looking forward to MGO?

I am looking forward to MGO BIG TIME! I was addicted to MGS3: Online which was an online mini-game really. So to have a fully developed version is going to be intense.

@Megalith
I'm sure it would be awkward at best. But I don't think MGS is at least the creator of this concept, as to whether it's a real world weapon or not I have no clue.

Apparently it's been confirmed that the game runs natively at 1080p, which is really impressive considering how the latest gameplay footage looks.

But imagine how it would have looked if they just went with 720p.

I'm sure that they built the engine and assets to look how they wanted long before they worried about native resolution. We'll probably never know, but knowing Kojima through his interviews he usually shoots for visual excellence on all fronts, so I'm sure that he wouldn't sacrificed one thing for another. Then again even if they did, we would probably never hear about it.

Old Snake:
Spoiler:
That MIGHT have something to do with the YOUNG Snake they had appearing briefly in one of the trailers. So maybe there'll be an introduction sequence (ala the Tanker) where we play as Old Snake, and then we'll play as "Young Snake", or whatever that clone-face will be called.
Then again, maybe that was all just a joke / red herring, and there'll be no "Young Snake".
Though that "Old Snake" showing up there... I think there'll be another playable character, and as Kojima said, we'll be playing snake, it's probably the yung'un. I somewhat doubt they put yet another character up who "inherits" the Solid Snake codename.

There's obviously some kind of regenerative/de-aging serum developed by Naomi that you take sometime in the game, part of which revolves around that girl with the petal in her hair.

I'm pretty sure that gun mod is real. It's probably being used in the Iraq war right now.
