Werewolf 8: Cairo Nights - Sign Ups! (Game Begins on September 3rd)

This is the official sign-up thread for the next incarnation of Werewolf. Like past versions, it's a game of good vs. evil. But in the interest of keeping things fresh and forcing players to create new strategies instead of relying upon old ones, I've added some new features. I think everyone is really going to like them.

Here's some exposition for you.

Five thousand years ago, a wretched evil was sealed away, condemned to rule no more. Robbed of his power, the vile, Egyptian god, Seth, bade his time counting the minutes, years and millennia, while trapped in his wretched tomb under the sands. Though time had weakened the imprisoning curse, so had Seth's sway over man also been eroded. The rise of Christianity had purged the deserts of Seth's cults long ago, usurping the wellspring of power Seth needed to fulfill his dark schemes. Yet Seth remained confident; he could sense the scant but devoted souls of a tiny cadre of worshippers, cultists who favored the faiths of old. As their numbers grew, so did Seth's power. Soon, soon. He would rise and reclaim his dominion over the mouth of the Nile, and the world.

Indeed, portents of Seth's return had been witnessed across the land. Unexplained illnesses and catatonic stupors were the rumors of the day in the back alleys of Cairo.
Some even claimed that powerful artifacts, believed to be long forgotten or destroyed, had resurfaced. The hopeful did their best to convince themselves that these relics were gifts from the benevolent deities, seeking to ward off their ancient nemesis. Skeptics spat upon the ground, believing these items to be cursed tools sent ahead by Seth himself to facilitate his return.

Lured to Cairo by the rumors of these artifacts, a team of the world's most prestigious anthropologists and curators has descended upon Cairo. They pray that if these artifacts do indeed exist, that they'll be able to prevent their abuse in the hands of the corrupt. Armed with little more than books, brushes and luck, they aim to root out the truth of Seth's reawakening.

Even the Egyptian government has become involved. Top officials have been ordered to carry out the ancient tradition of public trials in an effort to ferret out the occult menace, or send them scurrying into hibernation once more. As the sun's heat grows unbearable each noon, the officials are sworn to hear the pleas of the innocent and judge the guilty as they deserve.

What will become of Seth; will he realize his former glory or will the forces of the righteous be able to bind him to his glyphs once again? What of the artifacts? Rumor, or unsubstantiated truth? And where is all this information coming from? Why are the merchants and traders so busy these days? Are they trading more than just carpets and baskets? Why are tombs being raided and where have the corpses in the museums gone?

Cairo has always been a place where secrets are plentiful and everyone has a lie to share. The mysteries of this timeless city will now unravel as the dark lord Seth prepares for his final vengeance upon mankind. The fate of the continent is in your hands.

A brief explanation of the additions for this game, should you wish to participate.

1) Several new roles have been added, while others have been removed or given new abilities. The role of Magistrate, a player who can spare the lives of potential lynchees, will make its return to Werewolf. The Villager is gone, replaced by something much more interesting. The Masons get a potentially powerful perk, and two new roles will be revealed.

2) Expanding upon nuttyturnip's "Two-timing Whore" mod, players will have the opportunity to visit The Black Market at night. Unlike the Whore, the Black Market offers more than just names. Players may find special items, be granted additional abilities for one night/day, or could learn all about their enemies' actions. Of course, they might also inadvertantly reveal precious information to their enemies, temporarily lose priveleges or find themselves with peculiar curses. However, the odds of reward are much higher than ill consequences.

3) New to the game of Werewolf is the Artifact. The Artifact is a special item that can be controlled by any player. These Artifacts grant the possessor unique abilities, abilities which cannot be detected by any other player. Artifacts can and will change hands, so relying upon them exclusively isn't recommended. However, if you're lucky enough to have one in your possession, you might be one of the few players able to stop Seth, or ensure his arrival.
I won't reveal the nature of the Artifacts yet. Just know that their mere presence will make Good and Evil think twice before everything they do.

I'll leave this thread up for approximately one week. After that, the game will begin and all will be revealed.

Wait a minute.

Just because you have a Seth Green avatar, that doesn't mean you get to be Seth in this game.

Please tell me the two are just coincidences. I will laugh deeply.

I was trying to be funny, actually. That, and it was time for an avatar change. If Plarom can have a werewolf, I can have Seth.

Yeah, but Oz was one ugly werewolf, and I don't think he appeared that way on screen that much. Still, Crash couldn't have picked a better evil deity.

Yes, please. I'm addicted to this game. I'm already adjusting my strategery, and I'm thinking it'll involve much less making-a-huge-spectacle-of-myself this time.

I've read through the rules and while they make sense, I have no idea how the game is actually played. I'm gonna read through the past incarnations and hope I get some insight before the game starts.

REGARDLESS OF THAT - SIGN ME UP!
