Werewolf with Garry's Mod

Hey, been a while since I've been in here. And looks like there's nothing going on, so I thought I might finally try this.

For now, I just want to know who'd be interested and what they'd be interested in. Like, what setting? Traditional werewolves and mafia? Half Life 2, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat? Random stuff? A combination of the above? With the next update of Garry's Mod I should also have access to everything in Portal and Team Fortress 2, but that could be a while.

It'll probably be a pretty slow game; I'm not all that great at posing. If anyone else has Garry's Mod and would like to collaborate in multiplayer, that would probably help.

So... feel free to sign up and post any questions, comments, etc.

I'm in for whatever game of Werewolf you can think up, but I'd prefer to steer clear of something so specific like Half-Life. I've never played the games, and any in-jokes would be lost on me.

Ace Combat Werewolf?
Except none of the hard core Ace Combat folks ever play Werewolf.

I'm not totally against the idea, but I'd rather not add in an element that's gonna significantly slow down the game. If you can do it and keep it at the regular Werewolf pace (about 48 hours per day/night) I'd say go for it but otherwise it might not be the best thing to do.

I don't want to come off as impatient or anything, but it jut seems like the longer the wait is the more people become disinterested in the game. Maybe you could have some basic actions premade before you start a game, and then after that you can just make a few changes and fill in the rest with whatever actions that happen.

And like nutty, everyone may not be familiar with HL, so having something so specific may not work either. Maybe something set in the world of HL without having elements specific to it could work. I don't know exactly what the games are about (I've never played any of them, aside from a demo of the first game), but maybe you could just have a general alien invasion storyline with just a few HL elements thrown in. That way, fans of the series can be entertained while the game is still accessible to people unfamiliar with the series as well. I think nutty's 24-themed game was a good example of this, so check that out for some ideas (I think it was Werewolf 7).

Hope I don't sound too negative or anything, just offering some feedback. I have no experience whatsoever with Garry's Mod (I don't even know what it is, though I have an idea), but I'd be willing to help in any other way possible.

Oh, nothing would be particularly specific or contain in-jokes. For example, in a Half Life 2 setting, the factions could be Rebels vs. Combine soldiers. There won't really be much writing at all, actually; guess I should have explained things a little better.

Basically, I'd be explaining actions through short comic frames (perhaps even videos) showing how the victim is being killed- and I have many, many ways of doing that. Garry's Mod allows me to spawn npc's, ragdolls, props, etc., pose them and take pictures (or set up complicated real-time death machines). I'll come up with an example a little later.

I think I could manage 48 hours per day/night.

I remember you proposing Garry's Mod once before, and the worry was that it would end up bogging down like Lukage's Azumanga Daioh game. If you've got the time to get the screenshots, then that wouldn't be an issue.

If you're going to do something, you should do it soon. Tritoch has expressed interest in running a game once he gets done with schoolwork towards the end of November/early December (not sure if he's still interested).

Werewolf 24, season two... oh shit.
Might be the only 24 we see until 2009.

Holy shit this sounds awesome. ='D I have Gmod, but can't play online from my school network. I could help out once in a while on weekends, or over December if it's going to be that prolonged. Count me semi-in-maybe.

We'll see how burnt out I am from schoolwork when the time comes. I'm all for this game, but like Rockgamer said, only use Garry's Mod if you can keep things at a fairly regular pace. I'd hate for it to slow down to a crawl just because we're waiting for pictures.

I should have the time; it really depends on how quickly I get the votes/night actions. At any rate, I should always be able to put something together quickly, I'd just have to avoid too much limb and face posing. I also have another idea that should help expedite the process, but I'll get to that in a moment.

To make things clear, the HL2 roles/setting would mostly just provide character models to use in the death animations. This is because:

You will decide how your victims die.

So, want to crush your victim with explosive barrels? Fire him from a cannon into the sun? Airstrike him? Tell me in your nightly PM and I'll make it happen. Similarly, when voting during the day, you can choose a mode of death for your lynch candidate (however this is a bit more time sensitive, and if I don't receive the votes fast enough I just can't do it). Of course, there is a matter of feasibility as well as time, so if I have to I'll just make something up myself.

As far as roles, this is what I'm thinking of. Nothing particularly fancy:
Spoiler:
Good Guys
  • Rebels: Masons with an Infiltrator.
  • Infiltrator: Will be able to send the identity of one evil character to the Rebels per night, through the mod. Will not know the identities of the Rebels.
  • Vortigaunts: Masons. When one is killed at night, the surviving Vortigaunts will receive the identity of one of the murderers.
  • Scientists: Seers/Fools
  • G-Man: Shaman
  • Vigilantes: One will be smart (Gordon Freeman)
  • Father Grigori: Hunter
  • Odessa Cubbage: Lucky Stiff

Bad Guys
I'm not planning on giving out specific numbers for each role until the end of the game. However, I've looked at the numbers from previous Werewolf games, and I'll probably go with about a 1.6 good guy/bad guy ratio.

I'll probably also include items, but they'll just be the old ones with new names. The difference will be that every night, everyone will have a random (albeit low, of course) chance of finding items; there'll be no item sign ups.

I'll give this another 24 hours or so for questions and comments, cement the details and then officially start signups.

...And no suggestions, then. So I'll count that as nutty, Krelian, Tritoch and Helloween as in. Suppose I'll give this another couple days to garner some interest, or should I start a new thread?

Are we going to wait for the next Gmod update (i.e. the one which allows for Orange Box content)?

The content is there to be used. For example, I imported all of the Source engine games into Portal to allow the use of the Portal gun. Its all there to be tinkered with. Check out the Portal thread for more details.
