Werewolf 21: Needle in a Haystack | Day 1

Rockgamerstein was lucky. Although a gang of werewolves marauded through the city, its Mafia gangsters proved to be its unlikely savior. Sure, they had to eliminate everyone else to do it, but at least the werewolf infestation was stopped in its tracks!

For the unwitting residents of Zergrinchtopia however, the ordeal was only beginning...

--------------

Welcome to the Twenty-First Gamingforce Werewolf Game, where evil is grossly outnumbered (at least at first), and good may be dumber than we think.

So, how does this thing work?

The game is fundamentally similar to Classic Werewolf, with 48-hour long night and day cycles, with evil players and good players trying to defeat the other through nighttime executions and daytime lynchings. You know the drill.

Evil Roles:
  • Werewolves - feral creatures of the night, who can infect you with but a bite. Ability to collectively do 1 check per night, and have the option to either recruit or infect 1 victim. Only the lead werewolf can infect others.
  • Vampires - thirsty bloodsuckers with a bat fetish, but otherwise functionally identical to the werewolves.
  • Necromancer - dark priest who communes with corpses, he utilizes recently-deceased bones to divine the true role of his targets once a night.
Good Roles
  • Villager - a regular schmuck who pokes his nose on other people's affairs. Depending on his competence, may either have seerly or fool powers. Because of the nature of this game, a fool's check will always yield faulty information, but not necessarily a wrong affiliation.
  • Shaman - a priest who communes with the spirits regularly, he has the ability to block all nightly actions on a single target. The spirits abhor selfishness and will only agree to protect him on one occasion. It takes time to summon the spirits, thus a shaman should decide on a suitable target upon nightfall.
  • Vigilante - his fear of dark and evil things has inspired him to take up arms and defend his home. He may kill 1 player per night.
  • Magistrate - this adept bureaucrat navigates the murky depths of the law with the greatest of ease. Each day, he may choose to pad the ballot with 2 extra votes, or he may manipulate the top vote and lynch the person next in line. Vote manipulation of magistrates cancel each other out, but vote padding stands.
  • Priest - this holy man invokes the power of God to cleanse the taint of evil from a werewolf or a vampire. He is not spiritually strong enough to cleanse the lead werewolf or vampire, however. Praying takes an inordinate of time, and he must have a target chosen by day's end.
Once a player is turned, he loses all his previous abilities. An evil character who is turned becomes a Villager without any nighttime check.

Secondary Roles
  • Romeo - he has fallen in love with Juliet, and cannot survive without her. He only wins when they both survive to the end, and dies when she dies. He is not turned when she is, however.
  • Juliet - the target of Romeo's affection, she has chosen to reciprocate his love, with all the attendant benefits and risk. Romeo and Juliet may converse freely with each other regardless of their roles or affiliation.
The numbers you have already provided will be used to determine your role. Evil roles have already been chosen, while good roles are not. These will only be distributed by the start of Day 1.

If there is anything unclear, please contact me or post publicly in this thread.

Then that makes you an excellent target for recruitment (read Zerg's post again).

To clarify knkwzrd's confusion, the only roles handed out tonight are for evil. That means only a grand total of 3 got their roles.

The reason I'm doing this is to allow evil free reign during the first night (a la RockgamerXIII), but not in such a way as to take out the vigilantes or seers before they could act at least once.

That brings up an interesting point. Since the roles haven't been handed out yet, what roles are subtracted when evil kills/recruits tonight?

Just a simple reduction of the number of villagers, the default role. (Seer/Fool)

All night actions are in, and all roles have been handed out. If you have not received any PM from me, please notify me.

I am inclined to speed up the game by starting Day 1 in 24 (instead of 48 hours). However, it seems some players are still unaware that the game has started. What say you?

This could very well be the most interesting Werewolf I've seen in ages.
